Oh Bother..

with 2 comments

So, I was supposed to be blogging about how I could not escape the stigma of ordinary living. But halfway there, I got lost and decided to scrap it.

Long story short about it is, I wanted, yearned for something more than ordinary in my life. Be it not – so ordinary job or going to not – so ordinary places but it just doesn’t seem to be meant for me. No matter how hard I try to live a life that I want, life seems to just kick me back to reality. I’m not saying life is boring but isn’t it much more better living a life less ordinary…?

Anyhoo, I’ve been really..er..moody..the past few weeks. It may or may not be in conjunction with the coming month of March and my Birthday but I just dunno. It prolly does concern of me getting a year older again and with nothing worth of noting what relevant thing I’ve done for the past year/s of my life.

Its just that sometimes, I drift off thinking to myself ALOT of stuff I prolly shouldn’t be thinking about. Like, “why am I here?”, “what’s my purpose?”…weird huh? But in reality, we’re looking for our purpose in life, something that we can do with our own sense of flair and talent. So far, I haven’t really seen anything that defines me and my so-called “skills”.

Ugh.

Am I having some sort of Mid-Life Crisis..er..I guess I should just be calling it Crisis since I haven’t really reached the midpoint of my life yet. So..what do I have then?

Ugh.

2008: A Year of Photography..

leave a comment »

There were alot of stuff and things that happened during 2008.

But, one thing that I’ve noticed is that last year marked the emergence of Photography in the Philippines.

I, Myself just took it up seriously last year. Geting to buy Rinoa [my Canon 450D on April 1st..] and going to a seminar as well as reading dozens of articles and books.

I noticed it first on my Multiply, being bombarded with new people and their shots. As well as Photography 101 questions and invites to groups. Add to that the emergence and popularity of Digital Photographer Philippines appearing on book shelves..albeit at a scarce rate. As it was difficult to find one anywhere. Although I know that their mag and forums has been around since late 2007, it had such a big buzz and influx of new members last year. I know, I was one of the newbies that joined and I didn’t have a camera yet then.

I did meet alot of people new and old in the line of photography. As well, as learning from them. Thru the DPP forums, I met and befriended the one who would create the first Photography club I would join, Jason Miraples. He is such a nice guy and I’m glad he had that idea to create the CAMANAVA Photographers Club as it brought together alot of people that are now my friends as well. :]

Anyhoo, I do notice stuff almost easily and I did noticed photo contests, ads for seminars, camera sales and the lot popping about alot last year. And like i mentioned, Multiply was now alive, bursting with people. My first few years at Multiply, there weren’t many people there and not many were even going or know about it. Now, everytime I see a full moon outside, I check Multiply minutes later and lo and behold! Dozens upon dozens of Moon shots! LOL ;p

And more and more people with DSLR’s visit conventions and concerts nowadays..or it’s just that it may be the first time I’m noticing it ‘cuz I’m a DSLR owner meself..? Maybe, maybe not…still, it’s a good thing..as I am also one of those people who have gone into and are doing what they love: Photography..

Updates!

leave a comment »

Nope, this blog isn’t dead and I’m not dead as well..it’s just that i’m not updating it as often as I can…but, really, there’s not much I can blog about with meself..

Anyhoo, ’tis already February and me thinks that the job situation here in the Philippines will get worse as lots of people are getting laid off [in the headlines it said about 800thou+ people]…so that kinda sucks, especially for the other guys looking for work..guys like me…

I do have opportunities regarding my own flow of income but I do wish that me Mum would show support and optimism once in awhile..but meh, if she didn’t then why would she start now eh? Anyhoo, I do have options but the problem is how to start them..everything, unfortunately, needs financing to start something…and I am rather lacking in that category…

so, I tried to read up on earning thru blogging…you know, the ads and stuff…unfortunately again, I don’t have a credit card and having a “free” blog account doesn’t entitle you to mess around with their HTML…if you guys could suggest anything, please let me know..;]

My Photography is ok..I am not doing leaps and bounds in my development but I am inching along…learning and trying out new stuff…my photog club/friends are there to help me out and they’re nice enough to offer insight…my DA [deviantart] is also the place where I can find inspiration and boost my esteem with all the people liking my shots…I really haven’t tried to visit their forums though…

Speaking of photography, my club [CAMANAVA Photographers Club; CPC] had shoots in Tagaytay and a recently held Graffiti shoot which I both attend and enjoyed massively…the latter shoot kinda gave me the boost I needed as I was feeling low in photography self-esteem again…also, I’ve been trying out a new way of editing my shots…will also try out HDR as well..

On a side note, I did get a scare during a drinking session with some old friends at their place last weekend…I came over to their house after the Graffiti shoot and I was really tired but nonetheless these were the guys I hung out with during college, the only two people I could trust in my Psychology class…and it’s been awhile since iI saw them last….I did get to rest awhile before joining them for tequila…but after awhile, I experienced chest pains…I kinda thought maybe that it was heart burn but it didn’t feel that way…I didn’t tell me friends cuz I know they’ll bug out…so I just acted really tired and asked them if I could rest awhile in one room upstairs which they did…but man, I had a hard time trying to relax, I think my blood pressure acted up again hence the chest pains so I knew I had to relax a bit…

It didn’t take long before I was out cold, asleep…but I awoke later with the same feeling, so I went to my friends downstairs and just enjoyed myself there..I didn’t partake in the drinking anymore though…after awhile, the pain went away but that incident worried me alot…hopefully, it ws a one time thing..

Anyhoo, that’s what’s up so far..i’ll be blogging in new stuff in a few days…;]

Cleaning up…

leave a comment »

So..I cleaned my room today..actually not the whole roo as I share a room with my older bro…so I just cleaned my part of the room since it was the only part that needed cleaning..LOL..

I used to have my own room back in college…and boy, was it ever so messy…magazines, comic books, notebooks, college books/manuals, test papers, plastic, receipts, alot ofdifferent papers were strewn across the floor AND my bed…I only had half a bed to sleep in..hahaha…I never really bothered since all I do in my room is sleep in it and since it was my mess, I guess I was ok with it..BUT don’t get me wrong…I did clean the palce up once in awhile…alas, it would only take a few days till I mess it up again…

I guess one stupid reason why I don’t clean up my room much is that I hate to look for thi..if I left it there, it will still be there..unless someone cleaned my room, which sucks..the last time someone cleaned my things, they lost part of my Grimmjow Jaggerjacques [from the anime Bleach] figurine…they prolly didn’t notice that a part fell off and threw that away thinking it was nothing…boy, was I pissed that night when I came home…but I guess serves me right for being a scatterbrain with me stuff eh?

Anyhoo, one more reason why I don’t fix/clean much is that I have sooo much stuff…why? Cuz I’m a packrat…I keep all the nonconsequencial things people would normally throw away…I dunno why I keep hanging on to these things but I feel like I might need them…

That’s why when I clean up..I always find old new stuff that never stops to amaze me…like a few stuff I found when I cleaned up awhile back…I guess now that my part of the room is clean, I can start with working on some stuff out..:]

The Year Ender Blog!

with one comment

This be the year-ender blog post!

2008 was a very eventful year for me straight of the bat…so I’m going to do this whole thing per month…

JANUARY:

Well…2008 didn’t start out well for me..and my family… spent New Year’s Eve at work…which was a bummer..and my Uncle died the month before and all of us we’re reeling from it…I also resigned from work because of health problems, my blood pressure was way up…so I was without a job at the start of the year…and with my Uncle’s death, I was the one who “replaced” him in taking care of my Granmum…which made me stay awhile in Manila away from my family and friends in Pampanga…

FEBRUARY:

I was still in Manila…bumming it up…but helping my Granmum out with chores and the lot…I wasn’t really enjoying the whole thing because it was very monotonous…but don’t get me wrong, I love my Granmum a lot…it was just that I needed something else to do..

Spent V-Day alone ..again…as always..

MARCH:

Hopefully, that would be my last really bad and sad birthday…I did spend it in Pampanga but all by my lonesome just chugging away beers..no food, party or whatnot…it was depressing as hell…

I did stumble upon Digital Photographer Phils., their forum and their magazine this month…as well as meeting a few new people and friends at the said forum…

Now, weeks prior, my Granmum kept asking me what I wanted to do as it became clear to her that I was bored…she was the one who suggested trying out Photography…I guess I asked for a sign…and seeing the DPP mag at Booksale was prolly it…so we bought it and further solidified the decision for Photography..

APRIL:

Who says April Fool’s day was not a good day? It was the best day for me as I was able to get me my DSLR on that day…years before, I was actually browsing what kind to get when I did get money…I chose the 400D for CANON…weeks prior, friends told me to get the 450D…it was almost the same but newer-ish…so, off I went and got me Rinoa [yes, I named me camera]….and went trigger happy on when I got home..the next day, I was off to Manila Zoo for Rinoa’s first-ever shoot/outing

I also attended the first-ever EB for DPP at Manila Golf…I was glad that I went because I met up with someone who will make my photography fun in the months coming..[pictures of the event]

And for Rinoa’s first out-of-town trip..Baguio! And prolly her first best shot as well..

I would like to add that it was my generous Granmum who got me started…and I’ve been ever so grateful..

MAY:

I was frequenting the DPP boards more and more…and shooting anything and everything in sight…

I also got to attend Jo Avila’s Photography Seminar where I learned a lot and mew new people too..the coffee was great as well..LOL

I was actually having fun now although I still found editing photos a pain…

JUNE:

This was a really great and eventful busy month for me..alot of stuff was happening and thankfully I was able to keep up..

Jo’s last class, Mangaholix Con, LCC Photoshoot was all held on the same day!

Thankfully, the class was in the afternoon..so I went with a fellow seminar attendee to the con in the morning…it was fun as it was my first ever [and Rinoa’s] convention…a lot of new toys, things and cosplayers!

In the afternoon, we kinda arrived late but not that late, for the class…it was rather uneventful in the end though…we did manage to get goodie bags as well as having a photo printed with Canon paper..

After, a fellow seminar attendee and friend invited us for a photoshoot with his club, the LightCatchers…Raffy [the guy I went to Mangaholix with] came as well…I was nervous as this will be my [and Rinoa’s] first-ever model shoot and I was afraid I might not take good shots…well, it was a day of firsts anyway…

Although nerve-wracking, it was actually enjoyable…me and Raffy also tested out the “Starburst” effect for lights..we had pizza and beer…a few good laughs…again, mew new people…we were also invited for LCC’s trip to Corregidor [which I agreed to go to]…I must admit that I had a few good shots..they also held a photo contest and surprisingly, 2 people voted for my shot…I thought no one would vote for it..and no, I didn’t vote for my own photo..:p

Also, remember the guy I met at the DPP EB months ago? Well, he actually made a club for the CAMANAVA [CAloocan, MAlabon, NAvotas, VAlenzuela] area and he invited me to join up…the first meet-greet and shoot for the CPC was going to be my first one ever..that is until I went o LCC’s shoot [which was I think their first too? Not sure]..

The CAMANAVA Photographers Club went full ahead as the first meeting went underway and we had a good number of people who attended…sharing of info and ideas as well as the usual meet and greet…the model shoot was a big plus and I felt more comfortable shooting with these people…:]

And amidst of it all…another con! The 7th Annual ToyCOn! Hehehe…I actually felt bad coming to this because I didn’t have enough money for toys…:[ still, it was a great time..

JULY:

I was kinda glad I accepted the LCC’s offer to let me join them on their Corregidor trip as it was a really eye-opening [shutter opening..LOL] exhaustive, fun, enjoyable experience!

This was also my [and Rinoa’s] first out-of-Luzon trip..ever…and as well as the first big boat ride…thankfully, I wasn’t seasick..LOL

Corregidor was an eerie yet wonderful place…it has chock full of history in it as well as stories..from the normal ones to the paranormal…although, I didn’t get to experience the paranormal ones..and it was a good thing I brought my laptop as both my SD cards were full just after the first day!

Twas also the First [?] VA and Student Party held by Jo Avila…I won a Canon Puzzle game immediately after I told my tablemates that I do not want to get the puzzle game..LOL…food, booze, mingling with other photogs…plus goodies to boot…this was the party I was expecting during the last day of our seminar class…

AUGUST:

The CPC held its first out-of-town AND Pre-nup photoshoot on the same day…good buddy and CPC member Jerry asked the fellows if we could do his pre-nup shoot…[which was separate from the main wedding photog]…we all agreed, although I can’t recall who thought of doing it in Biak-na-Bato at Bulacan….anyhoo, we met-up with Babsy, Jerry’s fiancée [now Wife]…and shot and shot…it was tiring because of the up and down of the whole place..as well as wet, we crossed a river…from then on, I promised myself to be well equipped and prepared for shoots…:p

I also tackled on photographing Lightning but it didn’t turn out well…

SEPTEMBER:

I got me a new lens! Courtesy of the guys I work with..:] he is dubbed “LongShot”…I was now able to take shots off the Moon..

Another CPC Model Shoot which turned out to be my last to shoot at Jason’s house [they moved to QC]…too bad, it was a nice house…:] [the shots of the shoot]

We also had an outdoor shoot in UP where we had almost all of the members there..which was crazy..hahah…it was a really fun day because we were all there…and everyone was having a good time…and it was my first time to shoot in UP..

I had to adjust for the new lens…it didn’t have any IS..LOL…but it was a boon to shooting…and I love it a lot..

I also joined Plurk and made a Tumblr account!

OCTOBER:

Twas my first experience Surfing as my younger sis and her bf tagged me along for their Zambales trip to go surf…another great experience as surfing was uber cool…I did had worry for Rinoa cause she might get wet..but it turned out ok..

It was also another month of conventions! Three of ‘em! CollectiCon, AniCon and CosMania! But…they were pretty much more of the same..but the toys…god..the toys…LOL

Another CPC shoot went underway….this time it was a nice themed shoot as CPC was moving into new directions…the Factory Shoot was a success and it was also the first time the CPC, me, Rinoa to shoot a male model..:D

We also had an outdoor photowalk with few CPC members…tiring, yes but worth it..

NOVEMBER:

I went quiet this month..it was a troubling month for me…but thanks to my friends, I was able to handle things..

No shoots or events this month….just a few shots of places during All Soul’s and Saint’s day..

Although I had a surprise or two…

DECEMBER:

At last was able to shoot Nayon Filipino in Clark with Kitin…which was fun, tiring and disappointing…disappointing because the whole site was not well maintained..

Another convention! The Xmas Toycon…but there weren’t many photos because I only went on the first day…the cosplay was on the second day and I was on my way to Vigan for a funeral…

I tried to have fun in Vigan though but not too much…will definitely visit next time..

Christmas time! Which means presents and party! The presents part was fun and ok but the party was so-so…but it was ok since I spent last year’s xmas at work…and that was worse..

Thus ends the year!

I missed on a few conventions like H3 and UP AME but I’ll make up for it this coming year…I also missed a few photoshoots and again, I’ll make up for it…:]

2008 was mainly a good year for me..even more than last year…yes, I was unemployed most of the year and was single…but it was ok…it was still good…I did a lot of new stuff, met new people, made new friends, got to experience new things, went to new places…

Hopefully 2009 will be better..:]

Happy New Year everyone! Be safe!

Teh Xmas Blog..

with 2 comments

This will be my Christmas blog…although it is a few days late…blame it on hang-over..LOL…

Anyhoo,  I was particularly excited this Christmas as I spent last year working…yeap, working…although it was ok I missed out on Noche Buena with the Family and the Annual Xmas Party of me buddies in our subdivision..but this year, i’ll be present in both and will be taking photos…[said photos will be uploaded and linked to this blog later]…

And, seeing that I prolly wont get any gifts [as I experienced the past Christmases], I then bought a few things for meself and had them giftwrapped so that I can have something to open on Christmas Eve…hahaha..I miss opening stuff on Christmas Eve…:p

It was a fun event of course…gifts, food…food…food…family togertherness..but I didn’t get to eat much as I wasn’t planning of stuffing meself THEN going to the Xmas Party and drink me buns off…that will result in something bad…LOL…as always, I ate little [I ate alot the morning after tho..]..took photos and went off…

Now, the Xmas Party of me friends is always a FUN party…good times, booze, jokes, music plus getting to meet a few new people..and it’s fine for me to get pissed drunk as I only live a block away from the main house where we always hold the party…I can crawl, stagger, limp home for all I care..as long as I got to enjoy meself,..hahah…

Unfortunately, they started the party rather early and most of the peeps were drunk and some of ’em went home already…I still tried to enjoy meself though as I took pics of me friends…didn’t get to meet the new faces in the party as all of the peeps gathered round the new addition to the tradition…a poker table..:p

Dunno when they got it but they were playing poker all night whilst drinking…and not just for fun, money was involved too…and they were being served drinks..LOL like a regular casino…

Anyhoo, the party died down after the drinks were gone…I wasn’t even half-tipsy yet which was a let-down…still it was a fun party as I got to connect back with me friends I haven’t hung around alot for so long..like me half-german buddy Kurt, who was working in a cruise ship for the past year..or Mikey, me american friend who’s also a DJ [he’s here till January then will go back to Singapore to his work]..

I still went home at 5am…as we did what we always did…just hung around, talking, making jokes, poking fun at each other, kidding around…

The next thing to look forward too? New Year’s Eve baby…:]
